A traditional three-bedroom stone villa on the hillside above Kuşadası, with direct sea views across Pigeon Island and the castle. Sleeps six in one king, one queen and one twin room (small — best for children). A 7-metre pool on an elevated terrace looking out over the sea — spectacular at sunset. Large covered dining pergola seats eight, with a gas BBQ and an outdoor drinks fridge. Mature Mediterranean garden with lemon, orange and fig trees; guests welcome to pick seasonal fruit. Interior is a proper lived-in home rather than a minimal rental — polished tile floors, hand-woven rugs, old wooden furniture, local art on the walls, bookshelves full of novels, a piano in the main living room (out of tune, but much-played). Kitchen is traditional in feel but modern in function (gas hob, double electric oven, dishwasher, stovetop espresso, large fridge-freezer). Additional features: WiFi (fibre), air-conditioning in every bedroom, ceiling fans, washer/dryer, smart TV with BBC iPlayer, hairdryers, beach towels. Parking on-site for two cars. The owner is John's engineer standards trained — if anything breaks it gets fixed same-day. Ephesus (30 min drive) is the main day trip.
Kuşadası old town is a 20-minute walk downhill or 5-minute taxi. The castle on Pigeon Island is connected by a stone causeway. The ruins at Ephesus are 30 minutes by car (one of the world's great archaeological sites — allow a full day). Izmir airport is 90 minutes.

The owner came round on our first evening with a bottle of local wine and showed us how the complicated oven worked. The villa is full of character. The view at sunset stopped us every single night.
