About the villa

A sensitively restored 19th-century Greek-Ottoman stone house in the old quarter of Alaçatı, a four-minute walk from the main cobbled streets. Sleeps three in one king bedroom and one small single/children's bedroom. A walled courtyard with a natural stone plunge pool (4 × 2m) in the footprint of the original cistern. Bougainvillea-draped pergola, marble-topped dining table, outdoor fireplace for evenings. The original 19th-century stone well has been preserved as a wine cellar (in use — ask about the house bottles). Interior has been restored with restraint — original 2-foot stone walls, cedar beams, lime-washed ceilings. Bathrooms are entirely new (Carrara marble, rainfall showers). Kitchen is fitted with contemporary appliances (induction hob, oven, wine fridge, dishwasher, espresso machine) in a custom-built walnut unit that sits lightly within the original room. All textiles are handwoven Turkish linen; all lighting was designed and fabricated bespoke for the house. Additional features: WiFi, air-conditioning, underfloor heating, premium linens and towels, hairdryers, washing machine in a separate utility room. Not suitable for families with children under five or groups larger than three. Parking not provided — Alaçatı's old town is pedestrianised; public parking is a 4-minute walk.

The local area

Four-minute walk to Alaçatı's main cobbled street (Kemalpaşa) — independent cafés, design boutiques, restaurants. Sunday antique market at the Alaçatı windmills is worth the early start. Çeşme old town and beach are 15 minutes by car. Izmir airport is 60 minutes.

Exquisite

Stayed in many designer hotels; this villa holds its own. Owners have an eye most owners dream of. The courtyard at dusk is something else.

Bravo

Restored with love and with taste — a rare combination. The house feels old and elegant without feeling precious. Go.

Beautiful but small

Only one bedroom and the smaller second bedroom sleeps a child. Not a family villa. As a couples retreat it's perfect.
